Family Services Program - International Adoption

Q: How do I adopt a child internationally?

A: In order for you to find and adopt a child from another country, you must first determine which countries you are interested in adopting from. Every country has its own regulations about who is allowed to adopt from them, and the rules are constantly changing. FAMILY FOCUS ADOPTION SERVICES has experts who can talk to you about the options available in different countries.

Our Family Services Program for international adoption is not a placement program - which means we don't have access to the children in foreign countries. We will help you to find an agency that can help you to locate a child in the country you wish to adopt from. That agency may be local, but most of them are spread throughout the United States. Since they can't come to do site visits and personal interviews in order to write your Home Study, which is an essential part of the adoption process, they will ask you to find an agency local to you who can do it for you.

We offer training, application processing, site visits and the writing of your Home Study for a reasonable fee. Your study is sent back to the agency you have chosen so they can forward it to the country in which you are trying to adopt.

In addition, each country requires a number of post-placement supervision reports, during which someone comes to your home to make sure everything is going well and the child they placed for adoption is safe and cared for. Post-placement supervision reports are another service that we offer to families once their international adoption has taken place.

We are pleased to announce that The Council on Accreditation (COA) granted FAMILY FOCUS ADOPTION SERVICES's application for Hague Accreditation pursuant to the Intercountry Adoption Act of 2000 (IAA) and the Certificate of Accreditation was issued on March 24, 2008 for a period until February 28, 2014. FAMILY FOCUS ADOPTION SERVICES is authorized by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services as a full service adoption agency and a home study preparer to conduct home studies under the law of the jurisdiction in the State of New York for Hague Convention countries as well as non-Hague Convention countries.
