FAMILY FOCUS remembers with love and great respect our friend and Board member Arthur Glickman, who died suddenly on December 5th, at eighty-eight years of age. Arthur was one of the founders of this agency, and our first Board President. Our deepest sympathies go to his son Alan and daughter Mindy.
Those of us who knew Arthur will always remember him as an outspoken and relentless adoption advocate, with strong opinions, a mind full of strategies, statistics, and stories, sharp eyes, and a boyish smile. By profession, he was an award-winning sculptor, whose bronze pieces reside in museums and the homes of celebrities. His major drive, though, was to make adoption a better process, so that children who needed to be adopted could find their lifetime families. He and his late wife Sara, also one of this agency's founders, lobbied in Albany and Trenton for many years to insure that adoption laws improved in New York and New Jersey. He and Sara together were the proud recipients of an Adoption Activist Award from the North American Council on Adoptable Children.
How do we honor someone like Arthur in his passing? By celebrating his life, by remembering his focus, by letting him be our mentor from this day forward, and by acknowledging that the world of adoption is a better place because of him. We truly owe him a major debt of thanks.
The Glickman family has asked that anyone wanting to remember Arthur please do so by making a donation to this agency that he loved.
